A delegation of INDIA bloc leaders met with the Election Commission of India (ECI) to voice their objections to the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls in Bihar. The leaders from 11 political parties described the SIR as a significant threat to the basic structure of the Constitution. Concerns were raised about the timing of the revision, with the opposition parties questioning why it was being carried out so close to the Assembly elections. Abhishek Manu Singhvi, representing the Congress, highlighted the potential for irregularities and the risk of voter disenfranchisement. Other members of the delegation, including RJD MP Manoj Jha and CPI General Secretary D Raja, also expressed worries regarding the exclusion of voters and the challenges associated with the upcoming monsoon season.
