A gunfight is ongoing between security forces and terrorists in the Chatroo region of Kishtwar district, Jammu and Kashmir. The Indian Army’s 16 Corps announced on X that a joint search operation was initiated in Kanzal Mandu, Kishtwar, based on credible intelligence. The operation has resulted in direct contact with terrorists, with operations still active. According to sources, the security forces initiated the operation to locate and neutralize the terrorists believed to be hiding in the mountainous terrain. Concurrently, heightened security measures have been implemented on the Jammu-Srinagar National Highway (NH-44) due to the start of the Shri Amarnath Yatra, with the first batch of pilgrims having been flagged off.
