A SpiceJet passenger on a Mumbai to Bengaluru flight found themselves in an unusual situation: trapped in the airplane’s lavatory for the entire duration of the journey. The airline has issued an apology and offered a refund following the incident, but the details of the flight have become a source of amusement online.
The passenger’s ‘rescue’ came after the flight landed at Bengaluru airport. Ground crew and engineers quickly intervened, opening the malfunctioning toilet door. The incident occurred on a Monday night. The flight from Mumbai was significantly delayed, taking off at 2:10 AM after being scheduled for 10:55 PM.
The passenger, who had been sitting in seat 14D, entered the restroom shortly after takeoff. The door lock failed, trapping them inside. The crew attempted to rectify the situation, but the door remained stuck. To comfort the trapped passenger, the crew slipped a handwritten note under the door, instructing them to stay put until the plane landed in Bengaluru.
A photo of the note was widely shared on social media, eliciting a variety of reactions. Many found it humorous, and the quality of the handwriting was also noted. The flight landed in Bengaluru at approximately 3:45 AM, and an airport engineer was able to open the door. SpiceJet has since expressed regret and apologized to the passenger for the inconvenience.
