In a move set to enhance air travel infrastructure, the Bihar government and the Airports Authority of India (AAI) have entered into an MoU to develop six airports. The signing ceremony was held at Bihar Niwas, New Delhi, on Monday, with Chief Secretary Amrit Lal Meena in attendance. The airports include Birpur, Valmikinagar, Saharsa, Madhubani, and Munger, owned by the Bihar government, and Muzaffarpur airport, owned by AAI. These airports are part of the UDAN scheme, with the Ministry of Civil Aviation allocating ₹25 crore for each. Before the MoU, the Bihar government undertook a Pre-Feasibility Study for all six airports. The agreement was finalized after the Bihar Cabinet’s approval. Representing AAI was Executive Director Anami Pandey, and representing the Bihar government was Director of Civil Aviation Dr. Nilesh Ramchandra Devre. Also present were key officials like the Chief Secretary, Kundan Kumar (Local Commissioner, Bihar) and senior AAI officials. This partnership is expected to boost connectivity and drive economic and social growth in the state, particularly in its remote areas.
