Starting tomorrow, Similipal Tiger Reserve in Odisha’s Mayurbhanj will be inaccessible to tourists because of the monsoon. Eco-tourism spots such as Jamuani, Gudagudia, Kumari, Barehipani, and Ramatritha will remain open for visitors. The reopening date of the national park will be announced in the future through official channels. The closure is implemented because the roads within the reserve become challenging to navigate during the rainy season. Spanning 2,750 square kilometers, Similipal boasts a rich biodiversity, hosting 42 mammal species, 242 bird varieties, 30 reptile categories, and numerous plant species including 96 types of orchids. During the 2024-2025 period, Similipal saw 38,483 tourists, with revenue generated from safaris, nature camps, and entry fees. The state government designated STR as a National Park this April.
