Michael Vaughan has expressed his opinion on Jofra Archer’s potential return to the England Test squad. Vaughan doesn’t think Archer should be included in the team for the second Test against India at Edgbaston. He feels Archer needs more game time with Sussex before the third Test at Lord’s. Archer made his return to first-class cricket for Sussex in a County Championship match against Durham, marking his first appearance since 2021.
Speaking on the matter, Vaughan said, “No. He’s had four years out of action, I don’t see what the great rush is. Just give him a couple of games for Sussex and then bring him in for the game at Lord’s. I would continue with the attack that have bowled so well here at Leeds this week.”
The first Test at Headingley was a thrilling encounter between India and England. India’s first innings saw a score of 359/3 on Day 1, with a century from Shubman Gill. Despite Rishabh Pant’s twin centuries and Jasprit Bumrah’s five wickets, India couldn’t defend their total. England successfully chased down 345 runs, with Ben Duckett scoring 149 on the 5th Day. This victory marked the second-highest successful chase on English soil, putting England 1-0 ahead in the series.
