Kerala Governor Rajendra Arlekar faced protests from the Students’ Federation of India (SFI) at the launch of a book commemorating ’50 years of Emergency’ at Kerala University. SFI members were taken into custody by the police amid the demonstrations. These protests echo earlier demonstrations last week where SFI criticized the Governor for alleged anti-student activities, particularly regarding the display of images of Bharat Mata and RSS figures within the Kerala Raj Bhawan. Additionally, SFI activists protested at Kannur University against a university directive to monitor events for content deemed ‘anti-national,’ reacting by burning copies of the order. The protests underscore SFI’s concerns regarding freedom of expression and academic autonomy in the face of these developments.
