KL Rahul showcased an extraordinary display of batting in the Leeds Test, scoring a brilliant century in India’s second innings. He achieved a stunning 137 runs and played a key role in India’s 364-run total, setting a challenging target of 371 for England. This was Rahul’s ninth Test century.
Rahul’s performance resulted in several records. With three Test centuries in England, he became the Indian opener with the most centuries in the country. He surpassed Sunil Gavaskar, Vijay Merchant, Ravi Shastri, and Rahul Dravid, all of whom previously held the record with two centuries as openers in England.
Furthermore, Rahul has the second-most Test centuries by an Indian opener in SENA countries, with five, behind Sunil Gavaskar’s eight. He also surpassed Saeed Anwar of Pakistan, who scored four centuries in SENA countries.
Including his latest century, KL Rahul is the fifth-highest Indian century-maker in SENA nations, with Sachin Tendulkar topping the list with 17 centuries. Besides Rahul, Rishabh Pant also displayed excellent form by scoring his 8th Test century, finishing with a score of 118. Rahul and Pant’s combined performance led to a 195-run partnership that significantly impacted India’s score of 364. At the end of Day 4, England was at 21 without a loss, yet India was leading by 350 runs.
