Chennai Police have arrested actor Srikanth, also known as Sriram, in connection with a drug-related case. The arrest followed a positive drug test and the discovery of potentially incriminating transactions on his phone.
The Anti-Narcotics Intelligence Unit (ANIU) questioned Srikanth on Monday, during which he allegedly admitted to buying cocaine approximately 40 times. He stated each gram cost Rs 12,000. The investigation showed that he spent Rs 4.72 lakh on these purchases using Google Pay.
A government hospital confirmed the presence of narcotics in his blood, resulting in his arrest under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act.
The case originated with the arrest of Prasad, a former AIADMK IT wing member, after a fight in a Nungambakkam pub. Prasad identified Srikanth as a regular customer. Another individual, Pradeep, provided testimony that he had witnessed Srikanth consuming drugs at various club gatherings and identified Prasad as the supplier.
Srikanth’s background includes a Tamil mother and a Telugu father. He was raised in Hyderabad and began his acting career in 1999. He has appeared in numerous Tamil and Telugu films, and more recently in a web series.
