Following what it calls a “severe violation” of the ceasefire, Israel has threatened a forceful response against Iran. The IDF, through a social media post, communicated its intent to retaliate. This followed Israel’s acceptance of a U.S.-brokered ceasefire proposal, which was put forth by President Donald Trump. Israel acknowledged the U.S.’s support, specifically its role in addressing the Iranian nuclear threat.
The Israeli Prime Minister’s Office echoed the commitment to the ceasefire, emphasizing the coordination with President Trump and readiness to respond to any breaches. Trump had previously announced a comprehensive ceasefire agreement between Israel and Iran. The agreement was anticipated to end the conflict that began with Tehran’s attacks on American air bases. Trump suggested that final actions would precede the ceasefire’s implementation.
The initial conflict began on June 13 with Israeli airstrikes against Iranian military and nuclear sites, named “Operation Rising Lion.” Iran responded with ‘Operation True Promise 3’, a missile and drone campaign targeting Israeli assets. The situation further deteriorated when the U.S. struck key Iranian nuclear facilities in “Operation Midnight Hammer,” which prompted Iranian retaliatory missile strikes on U.S. bases in Qatar and Iraq.
