From July 1, 2025, Indian Railways is introducing changes to its fare system. While short-distance and suburban routes will remain unaffected, long-distance travelers, particularly those in AC classes, will face fare increases. Second-class passengers traveling up to 500 km will not see any changes. However, those traveling further will experience a slight increase of about half a paise per kilometer. Non-AC Mail/Express trains will have fares increased by 1 paise per kilometer. AC class fares will rise by 2 paise per kilometer. These adjustments have been made to cover operational expenses. Commuters using suburban trains or monthly passes can continue to travel at current rates. The new fares will apply to tickets booked for travel on or after the effective date.
