The Bihar government, led by Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, is implementing a new program aimed at realizing Mahatma Gandhi’s vision of Gram Swaraj. The Building Construction Department is overseeing this initiative, which involves constructing Panchayat Sarkar Bhawans (government buildings) across the state.
According to the Building Construction Department, a total of 2,600 buildings are planned, with construction already started on 2,000. Tenders for the remaining 400 buildings are in process. These buildings are designed to centralize government services, providing a single location for village heads and panchayat officials.
The purpose of these buildings is to streamline administrative processes and enhance governance at the local level. The Panchayat Sarkar Bhawans will act as secretariats, supporting development initiatives in rural areas.
This effort is part of a broader commitment by Chief Minister Nitish Kumar to improve rural life and governance. The government aims to build a Panchayat Sarkar Bhawan in each panchayat. The project includes construction in flood-prone regions and other areas, with varying sizes and features tailored to local needs.
Each two-story building will offer crucial resources, including space for officials, courtrooms, storage, meeting halls, and service centers. These facilities will enhance transparency, facilitate operations, and provide a range of services for local communities, including postal services and residential quarters.
