In Mokama, Bihar, the lives of 9-year-old Shivam and 7-year-old Shivani have been turned upside down by tragedy. After the loss of both their parents, the siblings are struggling to survive. They are now left to wander, seeking support that is nowhere to be found.
Their mother died two years ago during childbirth. Their father passed away last year due to illness. Following their parents’ deaths, the children have faced abandonment, left without anyone willing to care for them.
Initially, their uncle, Nepali Kumar, stepped in to provide for them. However, due to his own financial struggles, he could no longer support the children. They have since been sent to live with relatives, but this has proven to be an unstable situation, with the children consistently moving from place to place.
Reports suggest that the children are not receiving any help from relatives. Shivani has returned to her uncle’s house. Shivam, a student in the fourth grade, is currently not attending school and is assisting his impoverished uncle with work to make ends meet.
The children’s uncle reports that these orphans are not receiving any government assistance. He has been trying to obtain the death certificates for their parents but has been facing difficulties. Some officials have assured him that the death certificates will be issued quickly. Moreover, they said that the child protection department would be informed to ensure that the children benefit from government programs.
