Patna Police have made a breakthrough in the case of the threat received by Rajya Sabha MP and Rashtriya Lok Morcha leader Upendra Kushwaha, allegedly from the Lawrence Bishnoi gang. The police have arrested the person responsible for the threat. The arrest came after a swift operation by Patna Police concerning the death threat given to the Rajya Sabha MP and RLM chief Upendra Kushwaha. The individual who issued the threat has been identified as Rakesh Kumar, hailing from Bihar’s Siwan district. Police have also seized the mobile phone used for making the threatening calls.
During interrogation, the accused, Rakesh Kumar, admitted to being a member of Upendra Kushwaha’s own party. He explained that his action was a result of his dissatisfaction with the party’s leadership. Rakesh had contacted Kushwaha, claiming affiliation with the Lawrence Bishnoi gang, and threatened to assassinate him within a 10-day timeframe, triggering widespread alarm within political circles. Upendra Kushwaha himself had publicized the incident on X.
Patna Senior Superintendent of Police Kartikeya Sharma reported that the police initiated an immediate investigation upon receiving the threatening calls and messages. The accused’s mobile number was traced using technical surveillance, ultimately leading to his arrest. Further investigation is underway to determine if the accused has any associations with organized criminal groups. MP Upendra Kushwaha had brought the matter to the public’s attention through social media, urging security agencies to take action. He emphasized that while disagreement and criticism are fundamental to a democratic system, such criminal threats are reprehensible and unacceptable.
