The Indian Armed Forces’ use of a mix of imported and locally-made weapons during Operation Sindoor was effective, according to Defence Secretary Rajesh Kumar Singh. The operation focused on targeting terror infrastructure in Pakistan. Singh specifically lauded the BrahMos supersonic cruise missile as a game-changer, recognizing its critical role in the military action. He noted a strong synergy between various weapon types and the coordinated efforts of the armed forces. The Defence Secretary also mentioned the commendable performance of indigenous systems, including BrahMos and Akash missiles, and upgrades to air defense systems designed to counter drones and low-flying threats. The Defence Secretary revealed that the Indian Armed Forces were well-prepared and confident in their capabilities. Operation Sindoor was initiated on May 7 in response to the terrorist attack in Pahalgam. Singh also addressed the growth of the defense modernization budget, the challenges of expenditure absorption, and the increase in contract signings. Defence production in India has seen considerable growth since the ‘Make in India’ initiative, with a record output in the last fiscal year.
