A crucial conference on Time Dissemination, themed ‘One Nation, One Time,’ was hosted by the Department of Consumer Affairs. The forthcoming Legal Metrology (Indian Standard Time) Rules, 2025, will enforce the use of Indian Standard Time (IST) across legal, commercial, and administrative spheres. The project aims to provide precise IST through five RRSLs, utilizing atomic clocks and synchronization protocols like NTP and PTP. Accurate and uniform IST dissemination is considered vital for various sectors, including financial markets and telecommunications. The initiative seeks to improve digital and administrative efficiency, alongside enhancing national security. The conference saw participation from diverse stakeholders, including representatives from banking, telecom, and energy sectors. The project stems from collaborative efforts and technical consultations since 2018, aiming for enhanced administrative effectiveness and reduced dependence on foreign time sources. The initiative will bring about more secure digital transactions and other benefits for the common citizen.
