According to a recent report from SIAM, the Indian automotive market demonstrated a steady performance in May 2025. The report detailed combined domestic sales of 2,012,969 units across Passenger Vehicles, Three-Wheelers, Two-Wheelers, and Quadricycles. The two-wheeler and passenger vehicle segments were the most successful, whereas three-wheelers and quadricycles experienced a downturn. The two-wheeler segment, encompassing scooters, motorcycles, and mopeds, saw a 2.2% increase compared to May the previous year. Scooter sales specifically rose by 7.1%, while motorcycles held steady. Mopeds, however, experienced an 8% decrease. Despite a 3.3% month-on-month decline, three-wheeler production increased by 10.6% for the cumulative period and exports surged by 29.6%. The industry is optimistic about future growth, citing the impact of recent RBI repo rate cuts and predictions of above-average monsoons, which are expected to enhance affordability and consumer sentiment. Maruti Suzuki India Ltd. and Hyundai Motor India Ltd. were major contributors to passenger vehicle sales. In the Utility Vehicle sector, Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd. and Maruti Suzuki India Ltd. collectively sold 84,226 units and 110,757 units from April to May 2025-26.
