In an effort to rejuvenate tourism in the Kashmir Valley, Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha has announced the reopening of eight popular tourist destinations. These sites had been closed after a terror attack on tourists in Pahalgam on April 22. LG Sinha stated that the reopening was decided upon after a thorough evaluation of the current circumstances.
As a safety measure, around 48 tourist destinations were temporarily closed. The initial phase of reopening will encompass scenic locations in Anantnag District, including Betab Valley, Pahalgam, Verinag, Kokernag, and Achabal Gardens, as well as parks in the Pahalgam market. In Srinagar, Badamwari, Duck Park, and Taqdeer Park near Hazratbal are also set to reopen.
LG Sinha expressed confidence that the upcoming Amarnath Yatra would be instrumental in boosting tourism in Kashmir, urging people to participate in the pilgrimage. He emphasized the importance of the Yatra in contributing to the local economy and revitalizing the tourism sector. The reopening signifies a step towards re-establishing Kashmir as a leading tourist destination.
