A concerted effort by the Yogi Adityanath government to improve the power infrastructure in Uttar Pradesh is yielding impressive results. The UPPCL has announced a sharp decline in transformer damage, signaling a strengthened power distribution system and improved maintenance practices. This positive trend is a direct result of continuous monitoring, strategic interventions, and a strict accountability framework.
According to official data, the reduction in transformer failures is significant. The damage to power transformers plummeted, with only 12 recorded failures in April-May 2025–26, compared to 42 the previous year, 61 in 2023–24, and 90 in 2022–23. This represents an 87% reduction over three years. Moreover, the damage to general transformers has also decreased substantially. The number of failures fell from 7,322 in April-May 2022–23 to 2,613 in the same period of 2025–26, a decrease of over 64%.
The turnaround has been driven by a series of proactive measures. Power transformers were equipped with bell protection systems, while distribution transformers received tailless and fuse units. Mechanical fault tracking systems and continuous monitoring were implemented to ensure optimal performance. A zero-tolerance policy for power supply disruptions has been put in place. These initiatives, spearheaded by Dr. Ashish Kumar Goyal, have brought accountability and resulted in tangible improvements, reinforcing the government’s commitment to providing reliable electricity to the public.
