A devastating incident occurred today when Air India flight AI171, bound for London from Ahmedabad, crashed shortly after takeoff. The plane, which departed from Ahmedabad Airport’s Runway 23 at 1:17 PM, crashed near the BJ Medical College campus in the Meghani Nagar area. The event has caused significant disruption.
In response to the accident, the Indigo flight from Raipur to Ahmedabad has been cancelled. The Raipur Airport Director confirmed that the flight, which usually connects Raipur and Ahmedabad, will remain suspended until further orders.
Witnesses reported that the plane’s tail section struck a tree during takeoff, resulting in a loss of control and the subsequent crash in a residential area. The crash site was marked by a large cloud of black smoke, leading to chaos.
The aircraft was carrying a total of 242 individuals, including 2 pilots, 10 cabin crew members, and 230 passengers. The aircraft was under the command of Captain Sumit Sabharwal, who had 8200 hours of flying experience, and co-pilot Clive Kunder, with 1100 hours. Former Gujarat Chief Minister Vijay Rupani was also on board.
