MI New York has named Nicholas Pooran as their captain for the 2025 Major League Cricket season. This decision comes after the West Indies star, known for his explosive T20 batting, retired from international cricket. Pooran replaces Kieron Pollard as the team’s leader.
Pooran boasts an impressive international record, having played 167 matches for the West Indies across all formats, including 106 T20Is. He holds the record for the most T20I appearances for the West Indies and is the team’s top run-scorer in the format, with 2,275 runs. He chose to skip the recent T20I series against England, prioritizing rest after a demanding IPL 2025 season with the Lucknow Super Giants. In 2024, he hit a record-breaking 170 sixes in a year. His form continued into IPL 2025, where he amassed 524 runs at a strike rate of 196.25, including five fifties. His last international appearance was a T20I against Bangladesh in December 2024. He last played an ODI in July 2023 and did not play Test cricket.
