The film ‘Thug Life,’ featuring Kamal Haasan and directed by Mani Ratnam, had significant pre-release hype, marking their collaboration after ‘Nayakan’. The film’s release was affected due to a ban in Karnataka due to comments made by Kamal Haasan regarding the Kannada language.
The movie has garnered a mixed response, and the box office numbers reflect an underwhelming performance. Let’s examine the box office figures for ‘Thug Life’ over its initial three days.
‘Thug Life’ Box Office Collection – Day 3:
The film had a promising start but saw a substantial drop in collections on Day 2. Day 3 showed a slight increase following this decline.
Day 3 estimates indicate earnings of Rs7.50 crore, bringing the total domestic collection to Rs30.15 crore. Day 1 saw Rs15.5 crore and Day 2 Rs7.15 crore. Tamil Nadu led the opening day collections with Rs13.35 crore, followed by Telugu and Hindi regions.
Experts believe the film may gain traction during the extended weekend, despite an expected loss of Rs 35-40 crore in gross box office earnings and Rs 12-15 crore in distributor share due to the Karnataka ban.
During the audio launch in Chennai, Haasan expressed his love for Tamil, and then addressed Shivarajkumar, stating that Kannada originated from Tamil.
The film features Trisha, Silambarasan, Abhirami, Sanya Malhotra, Ashok Selvan, Aishwarya Lekshmi, Joju George, Nassar, Ali Fazal, Pankaj Tripathi, Rohit Saraf, and Vaiyapuri.
