Police in Ranchi, Jharkhand, have arrested a man in connection with the rape of a five-year-old girl at a wedding. The victim was attending the event with her family when the suspect, under the guise of offering mangoes, took her to a remote garden and assaulted her.
The girl’s parents discovered the assault when she returned home in distress and covered in blood. She was first taken to a local medical center and then transferred to a larger hospital in Ranchi. The accused was identified as Karmadev Urav.
Local residents, upon learning of the crime, confronted and physically assaulted Urav before police intervened. The Chano police station has filed a case against the accused, including charges under the POCSO Act, based on the information provided by the victim’s family. The incident took place in a village near Chano, about 30 kilometers from Ranchi. According to initial reports, the suspect was intoxicated when he lured the child.
