The Government of Chhattisgarh has launched the Pauni-Pasari scheme to provide employment to unemployed youth associated with traditional occupation in urban areas. 31 crore 37 lakh has been sanctioned for the construction of 122 Pauni-Pasari market sheds in 79 urban bodies of the state under this scheme. Approval of Rs 12 crore 18 lakh for 47 pauni-pasari market sheds at 13 places of different municipal corporations, Rs 9 crore four lakh for 35 pauni-pasari market in 26 municipal councils. Similarly, approval of Rs 10 crore 15 lakh has been given for construction of Pauni-Pasari Bazaar shed at 40 places in 40 Nagar Panchayats.
Officials said that the Pooni-Pasari scheme has been started in all 166 urban bodies of the state with the objective of providing local employment to the masses and unemployed youths. The cost of construction of the pauni-pasari has been fixed at about Rs. 30 lakhs. Under the scheme, there is a provision to provide traditional businesses such as Lohari, Kumhari, Manihari, Kosta-cloth etc. in the civic areas by constructing platforms and sheds at a very low price on daily rent of only Rs. 10. A provision was also made to secure 50 percent shed for women in the scheme. Under the scheme, the target is to provide employment to more than 12 thousand people by spending an amount of 73 crore rupees.
