Female foeticide rising |

|
According to CSR, number of girls in the age group of 0–6 years has been steadily declining at the rate of 57 girls per thousand males in the last five years (2001–06) in the tribal-dominated state. This trend now threatens to significantly bring down a sex-ratio statistics of Chhattisgarh with 989 females per thousand males, which is next to Kerala state (1,058) according to the 2001 census. The national average figure is 933. |
|
The Union Health Ministry has already pointed out that Chhattisgarh’s female foeticide figures were second in the nation during 2003-05 where 33 cases were registered. The observation has shaken the state health department. According to the Population Foundation of India (PFI) that takes into account the nation-wide comparative data prepared by the SRS, there were 975 girls per thousand boys in 2001 in Chhattisgarh, which has now plummeted to 918 in 2006.
|
According to the State coordinator, PFI, Jayant Kumar Bag the main reason behind the CSR decline seems to be latent female foeticide which might be widely-practiced but going unnoticed by the state government. A senior doctor disclosed, “There is a brisk business attached to sex determination and consequently leading to female foeticide in this tribal state.”
Few days back media has reported a racket involved in facilitating pre-natal sex selection clandestinely on a big scale.

'Maoist Landmine Blast kills 10 soldiers in India'
Raipur, CGnews: A roadside blast killed ten paramilitary soldiers and two others including one child on Nov 29, 07.
Police suspect Maoist rebels were behind the landmine blast, which killed a child and a driver in addition to the soldiers, said local police official Rahul Sharma.
The explosion occurred in Dantewada district, nearly 350 miles (560 kilometers) south of Raipur, the capital of Chhattisgarh state
Above killing might be retaliation in the gunning down of three naxalites in an encounter in Dantewada district by Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) personnel of Sept 7.
Being BJP led state, chhattisgarh affected most by Maoist violence. While 12 policemen were killed in a rebel ambush in the district on August 30, another 24 troops were killed in combat in on July 9.
In one of the worst incidents in the state, rebels killed 55 policemen at a remote forest outpost in Bijapur district March 15.
Thousands of people, mostly police and paramilitary personnel and government officials, have been killed in the insurgency since the late 1960s with the moral and political support of so called Human Right Organizations, fake seculars and Leftists. UPA government becomes a saint to see this bloodbath and left all on the state government which has not fully equipped with modern arms as naxals have.
