Raipur, CGnews: There is a huge arms dropping on the road in Raipur on Jan 21, 2008 to remind the Purulia (West Bengal) arms drop case of 1995.

The Purulia ( West Bengal) arms drop case was an infamous incident in which unauthorised arms were dropped from an Antonov An-26 aircraft in the Purulia district of India on December 17, 1995. Despite the passage of years, the incident is wrapped in mystery and not many details are known about the case, nor is there much consensus regarding the chain of events and the evidence in question.

Opposite to this Chhattisgarh police got success on Jan 22, 2008 in arresting top woman Maoist commander from Supela of steel city Bhilai after the overnight seizure of a huge haul of arms including 91 country-made, bigger size pistols and 26 foreign-made wireless sets and bundles of batteries in the Chhattisgarh capital Raipur. Arrested Malti is the wife of Gudsa Usendi, spokesman of the banned Communist Party of India-Maoist (CPI-Maoist). He issues statements on behalf of the outfit's frontal unit, Dandkaranya Special Zonal Committee, which is active in Chhattisgarh and is running a parallel government for decades mainly in the vast forested, mineral-rich interior areas of Bastar.

Malti was active in Bhilai-Raipur region for past several years, mainly smuggling arms for top Maoist aides who are behind terror acts in 13 Indian states. Malti's 60-year-old associate Prafulla Jha, a freelance journalist, and his son-in-law Vinod Chandrakar were also arrested for their alleged role in the arms drop.

It is also co-incidence that Medha Patakar of Narbada Bachao Andolan with other so called NGOs and human right activists reached Raipur for giving moral support to Sen of PUCL who is in the prison after the denial of his bail by Supreme Court.

"We held Malti Usendi, one of the top-ranked Maoist militants from Supela area of Bhilai, 30 km from here, and recovered arms from her possession. She was the one who dropped eight bags containing 91 country-made pistols and 26 wireless sets at a busy square in Raipur Monday night which were seized by police," Police said.
