Raipur, CGnews: Maoists have attacked the convoy of District Collector and District Superintendent of Police of Narayanpur in Chhattisgarh, officials said today.

Both the officials escaped unhurt, they added.

This incident should be taken seriously.  If collector and police officer can’t cross roads safely then how can this possible for private vihecles. The police stations, camps of paramilitary forces and armories in the Maoist insurgency-hit states are not fortified in the naxal affected states.

When the top officials of the district were on a tour of Rainar area in the interiors of difficult terrain of Abujhmad in the district, about 300 kms from here, Naxalites opened fire on their convoy last night, Bastar police told PTI.

"One of the bullets hit the third vehicle from the car of the SP and the Collector and broke its window pane," they said, adding no one was injured in the accident.

Chhattisgarh should learn from this attack of Maoists. State needs to bolster its police and paramilitary forces to check the growing influence of Maoist rebels.

When contacted, SP Narayanpur Ajay Yadav confirmed the incident but refused to give any further details.

Abujhmad area, where the incident took place, is said to be the headquarters of the banned naxal outfit CPI (Maoist).

Ajai Sahani, executive director of the Institute of Conflict Management, a non-governmental think tank has rightly said: “"The government should immediately launch a massive capacity-building campaign … and provide police force ultra-modern weaponry to counter fast-growing Maoist violence in the country,"
